Government Affairs: Fort Collins

Impact of Municipal Election

Three of FCBR’s four endorsed candidates won their seats in the April 2 election. Mayor Troxell easily defeated Michael Pruznick (again) for a two-year term. Kristin Stephens (District 4) ran unopposed and will serve a second four-year term. Newcomer Emily Gorgol beat two opponents for the District 6 seat.

The situation in District 2 won’t be certified until at least Friday, April 12. Unfortunately, FCBR-endorsed REALTOR® Adam Eggleston received only 10 percent of the votes. Currently, Noah Hutchison, endorsed by the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce, is trailing Julia Pignataro by 30 votes. The fact that this race featured four candidates created a less than desirable outcome for FCBR and other business-focused organizations. Assuming Pignataro prevails, the City Council will lean further to the left and Gorgol may become an important swing vote on some issues.
