The Keep Fort Collins Great (KFCG) sales tax was approved by voters in 2010. KFCG is a .85 percent dedicated tax that will sunset December 31, 2020.
Since 2011, KFCG has funded basic operations and enabled the City to both maintain a desired level of service and respond to community desires in an environment of population growth and annual inflation. As City Manager Darin Atteberry said, the City is now reliant on this revenue source. At a work session on July 24, the City Council expressed support for the tax and it can safely be assumed a measure will be placed on the April 2019 municipal ballot to extend it. The only questions are if the tax rate will remain the same and if groceries will be taxed. Now the staff will begin structuring public outreach events, to educate residents and gather input prior to next year’s vote.
