At an event last week sponsored by Fix Colorado Roads (NCLA’s transportation advocacy effort) and the Colorado Business Roundtable, CDOT Executive Director Shailen Bhatt pushed for more state money for transportation saying, “You might be a Republican, you might be a Democrat, you might be an independent, but I think we can all agree that the less you have to depend on Washington, D.C., for your funding, the better.”
Although Senate President Kevin Grantham and House Speaker Crisanta Duran were cordial and agreed more transportation revenue is needed, it was clear they do not have consensus on specifics. They both mentioned bonding as a key ingredient for any funding plan but voiced no specifics regarding how the bonds would be financed. They are also a long way from agreeing on a new revenue they’d be willing to ask voters to support this fall.
