CAR and its allies want everyone to participate in the Call for Action (CFA) on SB-156 “Homeowners’ Association Construction Defect Lawsuit Approval Timelines.” Sponsored by Sen. Owen Hill and Representatives Lori Saine and Cole Wist, this bill focuses on the need for mediation or arbitration prior to litigation for construction defects. The bill passed its first hearing in the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee on Feb. 27 by a 5-2 vote, with Democratic Senator Cheri Jahn crossing party lines to support it. The Senate will consider the bill tomorrow, March 2nd for seconding reading. (A third reading is required before the bill moves to the House of Representatives. The CFA will remain open through SB-156’s third reading in the Senate.
