Longmont: New Council Has No Clear Majority

Dennis Coombs received 57 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s election, ensuring him a third term as Longmont’s mayor. Bonnie Finley staved off challenger Paul Rennix, in Ward 3. Joan Peck won a surprising victory in the at-large race, beating attorney and Planning Commissioner Scott Dunn by 292 votes.

The new Council will be interesting. Finley and Gabe Santos are strong business-minded Council members. Peck will ally with Polly Christensen, who contributed to her campaign. The swing votes will be Coombs, Bagley and Moore. These candidates are less predictable with their votes but are open to reason. Note: LAR endorsed Coombs, Dunn and Finley.
