Mayor Dennis wants to put the proposal for mandatory curbside composting on the November ballot. Apparently he feels that the majority of citizens support the idea.
After a quick, but intense discussion at a recent Council meeting, Coombs agreed to stick with the initial plan. Staff will provide information on composting options no later than June, giving Council time to put it on the ballot this November if it chooses to do so. The motion passed 5-2 with Council Members Santos and Bonnie Finley opposed.
Note: LAR’s policy is to support incentives not mandates. Any proposal that requires mandatory participation and increases cost for homeowners should always necessitate careful scrutiny.
