Yesterday’s election featured some of the most competitive races in recent memory A majority of the candidates endorsed by CAR were successful — with one notable exception in the highly watched U.S Senate race. Congressman Cory Gardner won a decisive victory over incumbent Mark Udall who was endorsed by NAR’s REALTOR Political Action Committee.
However, REALTOR-endorsed candidates at the state level appear to have done very well. Incumbent Governor John Hickenlooper has won a very tight race against Bob Beauprez by a 1.23 percent margin (22,904 votes) as of 9:00 am today. Candidates representing districts in Northern Colorado won by larger margins: Dickey Lee Hullinghorst (Boulder), Jonathan Singer (Longmont), Diana Primavera (Broomfield), Lori Saine (Dacono), Perry Buck (Larimer County), Brian DelGrosso (Loveland), Kevin Lundberg (Larimer County), Joanne Ginal (Fort Collins) and Dave Young (Greeley) easily retained their seats. Newcomers supported by CAR also fared well, including John Cooke (Weld County) and Jeni Arndt (Fort Collins).
Note: The question of who controls the House and Senate in Colorado’s General Assembly can’t be answered yet because several key races are still too close to call. Some observers predict the Republicans will retake the majority in both chambers. If so, it is possible that Loveland’s own Brian DelGrosso (who served as the Minority Leader in the House) could become Majority Leader. Conventional wisdom suggests that a Republican-led legislature would be more supportive of business and real estate interests than the Democratic leadership of the past 2 sessions.
