The controversial ballot question asking for approval to move forward with an effort to create the state of North Colorado failed in Weld County, with 56 percent of the voters saying no to Ballot Question 1A. While the quest to secede may be derailed for now, Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway says the County will continue to find a way to give northeastern Colorado a stronger voice. His latest idea is to create a Club 20 type organization to lobby with one voice for interests of rural Colorado.
How this would impact Progressive 15, northeastern Colorado’s existing lobbying group, remains to be seen. Progressive 15 is similar to Club 20 in that it is a coalition that includes governments, businesses and individuals. It represents a 15 county area in northeastern Colorado that includes Larimer, Weld, Morgan and 12 other northeastern counties http://www.progressive15.org/index.htm. It opposed secession but has limited lobbying power and presence at the Capitol.
