Katie Witt recently announced that she will not run for a second term on City Council, eliciting surprise from her fellow Council members and others in the community. Witt did not give a reason for her decision but it is expected that she will seek some elected office in the future.
No one has declared to run for her Ward 2 seat, but there is plenty of time for candidates to emerge before petitions are due on August 26. Other incumbents who remain silent about their intentions include Mayor Dennis Coombs and at-large City Councilmembers Alex Sammoury and Gabe Santos. However, observers believe all three of these officials will run again. Note: This will be an important election for Longmont as four of the seven Council seats are available and the business-friendly majority is at stake.
