There is no truth to a rumor going around that Greeley is mandating that all property owners must ensure their existing homes and commercial buildings comply with new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provisions.
Assistant City Manager Becky Safarik and Planning Director Brad Mueller said the City has been working on its ADA compliance by having staff examine all current City facilities and to come up with a plan over time, and as allowed by budget, to accomplish that work. The City is using one staff member in Public Works to accomplish that review. Other municipalities are doing the same in order to meet Federal deadlines.
However, the City does not mandate that single-family homes must be ADA compliant. Safarik said, “The only time we enforce ADA compliance with commercial properties is when there is a building remodel/addition that requires a permit.”
