Council Gets “Creative”

On Jan. 17 the City Council passed a resolution to form a creative district encompassing both the Downtown Development Authority and the University district. A creative district is not a zoning designation; instead its purpose to attract creative entrepreneurs and showcase organizations and businesses involved in the arts and culture. In addition, the appellation will create a hub of economic activity, which will enhance the appeal of Greeley as a place to live, visit and conduct business.  The passage of Colorado House Bill 1031 in 2011 created the framework for creative districts and authorized the Office of Economic Development and International Trade to recognize the districts, provide technical advice and help leverage grant funding.
