The County Commissioners are considering placing an issue on the November ballot that would repeal two existing 0.2 percent sales taxes and combine them into a single tax that would last 15 years. The tax would bring in about $14 million a year to support jail operations and a reserve fund for future jail expansion.
A citizens committee has been formed to lead the campaign assuming the Commissioners approve the ballot language. REALTOR® Kurt Albers will chair the committee, which also includes former District Court judges James Hiatt and John David Sullivan and several former elected officials, including John Clarke, Tim Fritz and John Knezovich.
